Hai Phong breaks ground at Cat Ba eco tourism complex
The Sun Group held a breaking ground ceremony for the first phase of the Cat Ba ecological tourism complex in the northern port city of Hai Phong on April 14.
The phase includes a train station and parking, with total investment capital of VND5 trillion ($227.2 million), located in Dong Bai commune in Cat Hai district.
The Cat Ba ecological tourism complex will contribute to the realization of the city’s tourism development strategy from now to 2020 and vision to 2030, which aims to make tourism a spearhead economic sector.
According to detailed plans, items within the project are focused on developing tourism infrastructure on Cat Hai and Cat Ba Islands and include underground electrical systems, wastewater treatment systems, rubbish collection, and a tram network.
Along with infrastructure, other items serving tourism development include free public beaches for residents and visitors, amusement parks and water parks, the Cat Ong resort, and Monkey Island.
The project’s development master plan has been designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Good (WATG) from the US.
The project is expected to give Cat Ba Island a facelift while preserving its value as a national park and marine reserve. It was recognized as a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Area in 2014.
Mr. Le Van Thanh, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, told the breaking ground ceremony that with the unique design ideas from the world-leading WATG and the potential of the Sun Group, once completed the project will contribute to Cat Ba becoming a year-round destination that is convenient and attractive to domestic and international tourists.
Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Vice Chairman of the Board and General Director of the Sun Group, said it is committed to turning Cat Ba into an ecotourism area, with reduced carbon emissions and environmentally-friendly waste and wastewater systems.
Meanwhile, the Sun Group opened Southeast Asia’s most modern theme park, Typhoon Water Park, in Ha Long city in northern Quang Ninh province on April 29, offering 12 attractions, including a pool with artificial waves. The park is part of the Sun World Ha Long entertainment complex.
